what does my support look like?
Let me walk you through my service from start to finish.
Doula:
“A woman who serves”
“one who mothers the mother
“Servant to the childbearing woman”
-
The first step is to set up a consult call. That’s where we can get to know each other and find out if we’re a good fit! You can tell me what you’re looking for in a doula and ask any questions you may have.
You’ll also meet my partner! I’ll explain below how that partnership works.
-
After our initial consult, I’ll send a contract. Then the care begins! We will have 2 prenatal appointments, with at least 1 of those being in person. My care is customized to the needs of each mother, but typically the first appointment is focused on movement and nutrition to support your body throughout pregnancy, as well as birth plan prep. The second appointment must be in person, as it is very hands-on. We go through comfort measures and labor positions. We practice breathing techniques and hip squeezes. We discuss anything you need!
Throughout the entirety of your care, we will stay in contact through text, call, or email. I am always sending education tailored to each individual mother. I love getting updates on how you and your baby are doing!
You also have access to my extensive list of recommendations. Whether that be nutrition, supplements, chiropractic care, massage therapy, homebirth midwives, etc.

Starting at 36 weeks’ gestation, I am officially 24/7 on call to you! My doula partner and I will be staying up to date with how you’re feeling and will be waiting to hear when labor begins. We stay in close contact throughout all of early labor and join you in person when active labor is near OR when you need support. I will meet you either at your home or at the place you are giving birth, depending on your preference. I will be with you until you are settled and comfortable in your postpartum space, typically 2 hours after birth.
5-10 days postpartum, we will have a home visit. This visit is to check on how you’re doing both physically and emotionally. I bring a great meal and offer basic lactation support, as well as provider recommendations if you need further support.

Every doula has a “back-up”. This is someone you have probably not met who will join you in labor if the doula you hired cannot make it. This could be due to an emergency; maybe they’re at another birth; maybe they’re sick, etc.
Though neither Alex nor I have ever missed a client’s birth, we wanted to do it a little differently. We want our clients to feel comfortable in the off chance that a backup is needed.
We take consult calls together; we both stay up-to-date with how each mother is doing, and every client has the option to have both prenatals with 1 doula, or split them and have 1 appointment with Alex and the other appointment with me.

I offer private, in-person childbirth education classes. We spend about 3 hours walking through the stages of labor in depth. You’ll learn exactly what is happening to your body at every stage and how you can support the physiological birth process through movement, positioning, and breathing.
This is offered as an add-on service, as not every mother needs it. I highly recommend that first-time mothers and mothers who have only experienced cesarean births take this course.
